WhatsApp Business is free and covers most of a small business's need for professional support — but most people only use a fraction of what it offers. Here are the features that make the biggest difference day to day.

1. A complete business profile

Name, category, address, business hours, and a short, clear description. This profile shows up every time someone opens the chat for the first time, and it's the first signal of professionalism (or lack of it).

2. A product or service catalog

Lets you showcase products with a photo, price, and description directly in the app, without repeatedly sending individual photos to every new customer — saving time on both ends.

3. Greeting and away messages

The greeting message automatically welcomes first-time chatters; the away message lets people know when you're outside business hours. Together, they prevent the feeling of a business that "doesn't respond."

4. Quick replies

Repeated questions ("what are your hours," "do you deliver to my area") can become text shortcuts triggered with "/" — a fast, standardized reply without retyping every time.

5. Labels to organize conversations

Tagging conversations as "new customer," "order in progress," or "payment pending" helps you keep track as message volume grows.

When to move to a more robust API

If your message volume already requires more than one person responding simultaneously, it's worth considering more advanced integrations — but for most small businesses, a well-configured WhatsApp Business already does the job.
